Mayor's Report: COVID-19 updates, community health, budget retreat, KPD graduation

MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Kincannon read the following statement into the record: As allowed by Governor Lee’s Executive Orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, unless I hear objection, I am going to rule that, by acclamation, Council agrees that this meeting is being conducted electronically in order to protect the public health. There was no objection, and the meeting proceeded with an electronic format. Mayor Kincannon stated Knox County had passed the 500 th death attributed to COVID-19. The Mayor invited Dr. Martha Buchanan, Knox County Health Department Director, presented the 2019 Community Health Assessment. Questions were asked of Dr. Buchanan by Council Members Rider and Thomas. Dr. Buchanan spoke to the opening of Knox County’s waiting list for the Coronavirus vaccine. Mayor Kincannon announced the City's Annual Budget Retreat for Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 9:00am over Zoom. The Mayor announced the graduation of the latest Knoxville Police Department recruiting class for Thursday, February 11, 2021. Mayor Kincannon invited Police Chief Eve Thomas to speak to their recruiting efforts. The Mayor spoke to the City's efforts to recognize Black History Month in February.
